The title is what I was telling myself after my last session. I caught 2 fish and not big by any standards but could I keep it up? Other fish had been caught on the lake mostly to the guys that can fish mid week. But there was one special fish that was caught to a weekender like me. That was a 40lb.4oz common what a lump!(Nice one Chris) It was one of the fish I had seen in the closed season. In the Bay I fished on my last session.
So after last time and not much showing when I got to the lake on the Friday evening I thought it would be rude not to jump in to where I was before. Fortunately it was free. Conditions were slightly different with a south westerly and rain forecast the air pressure was average and not the best for dangling. But I was confident that the fish would return to the spots and nobody fishing in the corner. Again there was someone to the left of me, Simon a guy I had met before. He had done well in that swim having a couple the weekends before last.
I repeated the same procedure as before. A bit easier this time as the rods were clipped up from before and so was the marker. Spots baited up with the RSG and Garlic hemp 2.5kgs on each with 200 18mm RSG boilies. I was confident I don’t know why. As I had seen nothing but I just had that feeling. By the time the rods were in position it was about 9pm. So Cider and a bit of banter on the walkie talkies with the guys fishing round the lake and then bed. It must have been 2am that the Delkim awoke me, the run was so fierce that it took the rod off of the alarm(maybe need to get some snag bars). I hit it and it just came to the surface like a torpedo, out of the water, back down and just kept taking line and line and more line. Honestly heart attack stuff, brilliant. This was a totally different animal to the last ones, it felt like big well I’ve not had a 40, not in the UK but this was just mental! After about 20 mins it came to the net only for me to miss it 2 times. Third time lucky and it was in YES. It was bloody long and a stunner 28lb 8oz Zip linear. |
