With so many great boilies…………… |
With so many great boilies in the Ocean Fresh range and results on all of them it was difficult to choose which ones we wanted to fish all season. We already decided which waters. All we needed now was to decide which baits the carp would want to eat the most. Also considering other unknown anglers are fishing with many different manufactures through out the year. I, Anthony Gee and Mark wanted an edge that would see more carp on our mats than them. So after many cups of tea, debating and looking at our past results in detail we came up with a joint decision to fish two baits all year round. |

29lb.2oz caught on the new release bait to the OF NCF range. This stunning Mirror was caught on a single 18mm Peach & Black Pepper boilie in a PVA bag.

I had caught nice carp on all three baits all year round on different waters.

The final decision was Red Shrimp & Garlic and Oily Crab. We ordered 100kg between the three of us and started applying the bait in the closed season. Southlake is a council owned water so still observes a close season ruling which meant we could get our lines wet in this period but we were allowed to visit the lake on a regular basis to pre-bait and to watch the carp feed and see how they behaved on it. This was good because it gave us the chance to learn the topography of the water and apply the bait once some good spots were found. We still had Redlands to fish as this water had no close season and was fishable all year round regardless of spawning.
It was on one of these trips to open season fishing at Redlands that G had a blinding result, having found it so difficult during the winter. It was April and the weather was unusually hot, the temperature was hitting 20 degrees. I was struggling again trying to get a bite from the bottom baits. G on the other had had put a zig rig out and was getting results, in the space of one afternoon he managed 3 fish. Not massive but they were fish never the less. |
|
All carps were caught fishing mid to top layers of the water on a zig rig. Another alternative method to catch pressured carp, this method produced three good fish when all other tactics were failing for the other carp anglers on the bank. |

All the fish were between 16lb and 20lb all caught close to the surface using a zig rig. All other anglers on the water including myself blanked but we watched G pull the fish out one by one. Oily Crab Pop-ups did the trick this time. |
