Thanks to a good friend, I was able to fish small virgin water in the Netherlands… The water was 30 years old and only had a handful of single carps present, so the owner thought. My job was to find how many fish were in this water. During the first hours of the session, I had already caught 5 small commons. But for the rest of the day, there was no more signs of life. After single observations I discovered there were plenty of fish swimming around at 3kg UK6.6lb and no heavier fish could I see. All afternoon I was getting single liners. So I left my rods there and found a spot I could watch from the bank. I started feeding the carp by hand. From a tree I could see sand plate close in the margins. I quietly waited hidden inside the bushes and watched carp come up to a shallow sand plate and feed on the single boilies I introduced. From the bushes which I lay I could see all activity. The fish would come into the area and immediately golf down the boilie with out hesitation and return within 5 minutes but with another fish by its side, this went on for about an hour and I identified 4 different small fish. I was well pleased with how instant this bait was to these carp. Then a shadow came in and I could noticeably see a heavier fish but estimated him at around 10kg UK22lb. Suddenly swam that fish in full violence way of the bank, I was in such a way under the impression of the spectacle that I not yet heard my delkim whistling a way! Back to the world!!! After a violent drill, I saw a thick carp in my net. I guessed at 15kg but to my surprise the needle landed on 18kg exactly UK39.6lb. WOW! Further that day followed it yet a smaller fish that I just as beautiful found!
Single broken Squid & Octopus boilies gave me this result! The boilie wasn’t even on the market yet and was doing the business straight away. |

"Prachtige schub (pretty common) of 18kg UK39.6lb" |

"Chocolate brown of colour, perfect scale caught from the virginal water" |
During an instant session on the provincial domain lake Puyenbroek, I caught this 17,4kg UK38.2lb weighing mirror. I fished a slanting slope on approximately 4 m depth. My rig was a single broken GLM boilie and a few 20mm boilies around the swim.
Was the known leather “bingo” after single hour. |

Fishing in dense weed or very muddy waters I will always fish small bright sweet pop-ups 12mm
In highly-seasoned waters, where there’s much plant life and muddy bottom I regularly prefer fishing popups. On these highly-seasoned waters fish I sometimes fish with hook links a meter long and a pop up critically balanced so its sinks slowly to the bottom. The length of the hook link is thus well important. Also must you certainly be that the fish safely is first in your mind. I use a safety clip and the rubber that can easily come off when any pressure to the lead comes. As soon as the lead gets tangled in the weed, it comes clean off and the fish rises to the surface. I chop my free baits up so some will lie on top of the vegetation and others will fall into small holes in the bottom debris. I bait about half a kilo of boilies with confidence that I have free offering resting close to my sunken popup. I saw a dark small mirror on the my margin and dropped off I my balanced pop-up. I used a light weight lead so no splashing and spooking the fish. After single minutes came, that fish back to my margin spot only metres up the side of my bank and sucked my bait clean it to its mouth right in front of my eyes. |

No giant fish, but see well beautifully! From such moments you learn more and more about how carp feed. |
