Fishing Pro Match Soft Pellets.

Soft pellets from Ocean Fresh at the camping

About a month ago a nice guy from the local pub where I hang out from time to time told me about small water near a camping site where he goes fishing regularly. Apparently it is stocked with carp as big as a hand up to 16lbs. As I had nothing to do, and fancied some fun I decided go with him and try out the Soft Hook and Feed pellets and Carp Floaters from Ocean Fresh.

Lommeke, the man who invited me is 78 years old!!! And he told me he usually fishes with sweet corn or a plain and simple worm. The water is not that big, and you can not fish there with carp rods with reels, so I took my pole rod with an elastic in the top in case I would catch some bigger carp.

As I always like to have an edge when fishing I prepared a couple of PVA bags filled with small pellets and some with the strawberry and aniseed flavoured soft pellets from Ocean Fresh.  I also made some pva strings filled with these soft pellets, this would enable me to put some stringers or bags on my hook whenever throwing out.

I also made mix of hemp, with sweet corn and the same small and soft pellets. To mix everything up I used some strawberry oil to match my hook baits.  I used the strawberry one because it was a hot day, and I always get good bites with this flavour.

On my arrival I immediately noticed that all the fishermen where retired people from the camping site, they old preference was fishing on the bottom and about 4 metres out.  The carp seemed to have noticed this as well since they were swimming below the surface and about 8 metres out.  So I decided to fish at that length just about 15 centimetres below the surface.  Before starting I threw in some feeding balls of my mix, and attached a bag on my first ten casts. Very soon there was a lot of carp activity on my spot and I could start fishing.  I used the strawberry and aniseed pellets as hook baits but the difference didn’t really matter, I could not keep up with all the carp that took my bait and I found myself catching one after the other.

My old friend who was sitting a couple of metres further wasn’t getting any bites at all and couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw me catching.  He didn’t mind though and kept trying to get some bites.  The other fishermen weren’t catching too much either, but my neighbour on the other side wasn’t as friendly as Lommeke though.

He asked me what I was fishing with, and I told him and showed him my soft pellets.  In an angry way he told me that it was only allowed to fish with corn, worms or maggots on this water and I had to put my pellets away…

Fairly angry (understatement) about this jealousy, I put my pellets away and started fishing with sweet corn, since it was the only “allowed” bait that I had with me…

Immediately I got a lot less takes and it turned over and over in my mind what I could to get the fish to take my bait again.  I put out some more bags and stringers as the fish were still on the spot but they didn’t take the corn.

Desperate situations call for desperate measures so I decided to cover my corn with strawberry flavour, and started again, you can guess, the fish started to take my corn again, and I was off for another great time.  After about ten minutes and the same amount of carp my neighbour started shouting again that I was cheating, so I took out the sweet corn, showed it to him and asked if it was ok to put in on the hook, he said yes so I did and casted out, within ten seconds had a bite and caught a 5 pound carp hahaha.  He gathered his rods and materials and stopped fishing mumbling some words about it not being possible.

Lommeke laughed his pants off and told me this guy was always complaining when other people catch more than him and loved it that he wandered off.  I shared some of my mix and flavour with Lommeke told him to fish a bit further and less deep and he as well started catching.

I lost count but I had more than 70 carp between 1 and 8 pound and just had a great day in the sun…..

Cheers
